Hunting Blinds

A hunting blind hides your movement, blocks wind, and keeps you comfortable through long sits over a feeder or sendero. This collection covers box blinds, ground blinds, and elevated deer blinds from Rhino Blinds and Maverick for Texas deer and hog hunting.

How to Choose a Hunting Blind

Box blind or ground blind

A box blind is a semi-permanent setup, usually on a tower or platform, built for a spot you hunt every season. A pop-up ground blind is lighter, cheaper, and easy to move when deer change patterns. Many hunters run both: a box blind over the main feeder and a ground blind for scouting new spots or bowhunting.

Height and sight lines

Elevation gets your scent above the deer and lets you see over brush in mesquite and cedar country. In open ground or when hunting a creek bottom, a ground blind tucked into cover can work just as well.

Heat and ventilation

Early season in Texas is hot. Look for windows that open fully, good airflow, and light-colored or insulated roofs. A blind that bakes you out at 4 p.m. does not get hunted.

Window layout for your weapon

Rifle hunters want windows at a comfortable rest height. Bowhunters need taller windows and enough interior room to draw. Crossbow shooters need width for the limbs.

Durability and setup

Sun, wind, and wasps are tough on blinds. Check fabric UV treatment, frame material, and how the blind anchors down for spring storms. Plan for how you will get a box blind on site and level it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far should a deer blind be from a feeder?

Many hunters set blinds roughly 40 to 100 yards from a feeder for rifle hunting and closer for archery. Place it so the prevailing wind carries your scent away from the feeder and the approach trails.

Do deer get used to a ground blind?

Generally, yes. Setting a ground blind up a week or more before you hunt it and brushing it in with local vegetation helps deer accept it.

What is a redneck blind?

"Redneck blind" is a common nickname for a hard-sided elevated box blind, and it is also a well-known brand name. Most hunters use the term for any insulated tower box blind.
